John already offered his copy for $40. What about the fellow who brought his back to Mogi for store credit a mere 16 hours after North American release claiming it to be "the biggest disappointment of his life"? Lewie, on the other hand, seems to love it, and boasts 75 hours of logged game play so far - a personal record. Paddy's assessment as an observer was predictably lukewarm at first, however he was impressed with the opening sequence visuals. Also, I'm almost certain I detected mild interest in him after my description of the battle system and its advanced nuances ("Dude, it's like, so fast, it's, like, so fucking sweet. It's, like, ahead of it's time or something. It's just really fast, you have to, like, keep switching back and forth and shit, like really fast.") He said, "I'll have to try it out at some point." Mogi likes it, just look at his new tattoo. Curtis likes it, but the last time I brought it up in conversation it only made him angry because he was at a difficult point in the game. "Nearly impossible," he said. I told Mook I had it and he said he really wanted to come over and check it out. He stopped by after work one day and quickly fell asleep after I started playing. I still have to show Matt and ask him what he thinks.
Myself: I am near the end of chapter 5. It is fascinating. I frequently stop moving through in order to look around at the sky, the earth, my costume, the submenus. It's what I remember. Linearity? Rigidity? These things do not occur to me. It is not perfect, but I love it.
I recently passed (slowly) through the Gapra Whitewood with Light and Hope, an area sequestered for ecology and bio-weapon research. It was a sort of horrible Ecstasy fever dream with luminous trees and cyborg wolves culminating in grave violation to my party from a damnable robo-botanic abomination, Aster Protoflorian. It was an honest-to-goodness stressful and exciting challenge. Soundtrack is good as well.
